2022.01.24 20:49 _burntlime_ Can I get some reassurance about the vaccine?

For the last few years my mother has been super deep into qanon bullshit. All I could really do was cover my ears and ignore it the best I could.
Well, I just turned 18, and wish to get the vaccine that she forbade me from getting because it’ll kill me or something. I made the appointment, but I find myself terrified as the date approaches. I KNOW that the vaccine is safe, that it’s just a modified version of a vaccine they’ve been working on for like 40 years, that it doesn’t contain microchips, that it can’t make me lgbt (i’m gay and she blames it on my 12 yr old vaccines lol), etc. Despite that, my brain won’t stop doubting. I know it can’t be possible, but my thoughts just keep getting tainted by the years of conspiracy theories she’s drilled into my head. I was diagnosed with anxiety in 2016, and she’s been praying on that to instill fear into my otherwise logical thoughts.
All that being said, my first dose is tomorrow, and I could really use some good old fashioned reassurance.

2022.01.24 20:49 _shtupid2 I fucking hate valk.

Why is her entire kit based on lights? throwing heavys as Valk is a death sentence. I hate playing against her so much, but I know I can't blame the person playing. Valk is just a poorly designed hero.

2022.01.24 20:49 blxssmbby Favorite endings?

What kind of happy endings do you like? I know a lot of people tend to feel.. meh… about the whole “we got married and now we are pregnant” type of ending.
I’m not sure how I want to end one of my fics, but it’s very angsty typical forbidden love type of story.
Short summary:
Girl falls in love with the much older, charismatic friend of her brother who is a gangster and takes care of their whole town. He sends her brother away and they engage in an illicit relationship. Eventually her brother will find out and try to separate them for a while, but in the end they end up together.
Regardless of this plot, I’d like to know what sort of endings you all like! I also love the bittersweet kinds, but my fic is in need of something cheesy and corny yet fluffy ending.

2022.01.24 20:49 TheSerenityPress 10,000 Days ODAAT

Recently someone asked why we count days. I can’t speak for everyone, but at a certain point my sobriety isn’t something separate and apart from my life… it is my life.
That is to say, being sober isn’t something I’m working on achieving… These days, I work on maintaining it.
TBH, I didn’t even know I was coming up on this milestone until a week or so ago. 10,000 days - One Day at a Time - ODAAT.
But then, drinking never was my problem. Drinking was the solution to the chaos of life, my inability to make “them” (you other people out there in the world) behave. It gave me a momentary break from the nagging inner doubts, crippling fear, the bad relationships and pretty much all of impacts of my character defects… drinking gave me peace.
Until it didn’t.
I keep count of the time I’ve been sober to remind myself that I may have come a long way, but life still goes on. I keep count of the time I’ve been sober to demonstrate to others that it is possible.
Brief Story Time On September 8, 1994, I woke up / came to in a budget hotel room with 2 strippers I had spent the previous night with.
It’s funny the things you remember almost 30 years later. One of the girls had walked to Burger King and picked up breakfast for all of us. As I sat on the bed, eating a burrito, the pain of life came rushing back. The peace was gone again.
I was 27 years old and I was tired. I looked in the mirror across the room… I had become a person I didn’t recognize. I had lost my way.
The solution stopped working.
I could not imagine going another day in this body… in this mind. It had to stop.
At the same time, I couldn’t imagine going another day without drinking… how could I dull the pain of living inside me without it?
This moment was the beginning of the end. I had no way of knowing it at the time, but looking into my eyes in the mirror I saw a desperate person who was on the cusp of something that would change his life forever.
We got dressed and I took the two women back to their club to start the lunch shift. One of them asked if I wanted a beer… Sure, why not?
In my drinking “career” I had consumed some of the finest bourbon ever made. I had enjoyed fine wine and handcrafted ales… sitting at the bar in a low-rent strip club on the side of the highway in east Dallas, the girl pulled me a Natural Light (Natty Light) beer that would be my last. (That’s an indication of how “great” this bar was… Natty Light on tap was their finest offering!)
The stripper / bartender did a shot to get ready for her shift and then stepped away, kissing me on the cheek as she passed…. as if to send me on a journey. I have no idea why, but I remember all of this as if it were yesterday. It’s been over 27 years since then, but I will never forget what happened next….
As I lit a cigarette, I caught sight of myself in the mirror behind the bar. I saw my eyes… looking back at me.
In AA, we talk about the “moment of clarity”. This was mine. I have no idea why or how, but this was the end.
Plenty of people have a problem with the idea of a “higher power”… the god thing… in AA. I do too… For me, it’s not some crusty old guy up in the clouds… it is simply the force of the universe pushing me to change.
In that moment, I knew it was over.
You can’t plan for these things… but my “conscious contact” with the universe helps me to not miss them.
I didn’t know what lay ahead, but I knew I couldn’t keep going back to this solution. I had reached the end.
The next day - September 9, 1994… my sobriety date - I got in my car and drove straight through to my brother’s house in Seattle. I needed to put some space between myself and my life.
I didn’t make any grand pronouncement… I didn’t tell a soul… after all, they’d heard it all before. No one would’ve believed me anyway.
I slept for a few weeks.
Over the years, I grew to understand how I got there… to that “jumping off place”. I gained a set of tools that would help me build a life that didn’t need to be escaped… I worked the steps and grew as a person and improved my connection with the universe around me…
I’ve not had a drink or drug in the 10,000 days since then.
I’ve found the peace in sobriety that I had been looking for at the bottom of all those bottles of bourbon…
If I can do it. If it can work for me… if that guy who looked back at me from that crappy bar mirror can be saved from a life of misery… so can you.
I wish you all the same peace I’ve found in my life…

2022.01.24 20:49 Malecite Can Caffeine Withdrawal Cause Sinus Problems?

Hello everyone.
Mid thirties, been due drinking caffeine for 20 years, recently been getting horrible heartburn issues so I decided to finally kick this awful habit.
I've been drinking 3 cups a day and went down to 1. I'm fairly fit but decided to try and replace caffeine with exercise so I've been getting up every day at 4ish and going for a 20 min run.
First 5 days were absolute hell, then things were great for a week. Better sleep, more energy, but now at the 2 week mark I suddenly have developed these annoying sinus issues and constant faitige.
I've suffered from sinus problems all my life so I know what an infection feels like and this isn't it. It's like a constant congestion and post nasal drip with this brutal fatigue that just comes and goes.
Anyone have any insight if this sounds like withdrawal syntoms? It's not a cold because it's not worsening, and it's not a sinus infection because I know what those feel like and the associated symptoms.
